The Progress Of The Human Race Was One Of The Major Focuses

The progress of the human race was one of the major focuses of the Enlightenment movement. A majority of the philosophes wrote on how progress can be achieved, however, the philosophes had some differing ideas on how progress was gained and measured. One conclusion reached was the idea of the commerce, leisure, and cultivation cycle. The cycle depicts the concept of in order to make humanity move forward people need to have basic needs provided and have time to ponder ideas of life. The writings of David Hume, Adam Smith, and Marquis de Condorcet display the concept of the commerce, leisure, and cultivation cycle, while also showing how the cycle could initially propel the wealthy while leaving the poor behind. The initial focus is put on†¦show more content†¦Along with human progress, ideas about class division can be extracted from Hume’s essay â€Å"On Luxury.† Hume briefly addresses the ideas of classes, however, he takes time to discuss how higher polished societies have different class structures than their non-polished counterpart societies. â€Å"We shall find that a progress in the arts is rather favorable to liberty and has a natural tendency to preserve, if not produce, a free government. In rude, unpolished nations†¦ the whole society is divided into two classes, proprietors of land and their vassals or tenants,† (Hume pg. 495). In the previous statement, Hume presents an argument that the study of liberal arts is necessary for a free government. Liberal arts promotes more support of the individual and more polished people generally strive for more open governments. Despite the potential for more free government, it takes a sizeable amount of t ime for the poor to see the benefit of the cycle. Since the working class cannot devote as much time to leisurely activities, they do not see the initial benefits the wealthy see. Due to increased commerce and the subsequent increase in leisure, society is pushed forward; however, the wealthy see the benefits much faster than the lower classes of society who have to wait for cultivation to occur. Self Presentation Free Essays

Self presentation When you meet someone for the first time, it comes to your mind a certain impression about him or her. On the other side, that person also takes a certain impression about you. This impression might be positive or negative. We will write a custom essay sample on Self Presentation or any similar topic only for you Order Now It depends on how you present yourself to others. Unfortunately, the first impression is sometimes unfair because the person you meet for the first time may take a wrong impression about you. For example, my friend told me that before we became close friends, she was thinking that I am arrogant, but when she became close to me, she discovered that she took a wrong impression about me. In fact, I am not sociable and I don’t take the initiative in getting to know others. That is why those who do not know me well think i am arrogant, but that is not true about me. The first impression whether it is true or not may affect the way you treat people and how they treat you forever. For example, I fall in love with someone. When we first meet each other, he told me that he belongs to the royal family. Later, I discovered that he was lying to me. I know that he is from the upper class and he belongs to a prominent family, so there was no need to lie about his family name. Actually, because of this lie, I took an impression about him that he is not trustworthy, so we broke up. In most cases, the first impression lasts forever, so you should present yourself in a good image. To make others take a good impression about you, you must consider the following; First, be yourself. Don’t tell anything that is not true about you. Show your real personality. Second, take care of your appearance. Your dress should be clean and appropriate to the customs of society in which you live. Moreover, be careful in your appointments. If you attend the meeting on time, you will get others’ respect because it shows that you care about them. In addition, smile to your audience, keep eye contact when you speak and listen and Speak clearly to let your audience understand what you say. Furthermore, choose your words which express what you want to say correctly. In short, we all should present ourselves in the right way to let others take a good impression about us in order to make relationships last longer. Samira Said Al Hajri. Assignment 1. Business and Information Systems Engineering †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Business and Information Systems Engineering. Answer: Introduction: The issue which is related to the internet is things is running in existence due to the concept of the digital technology are becoming more and more prevalent. It can be stated here that the concept, which is behind the internet of thing, is very much interesting. When the malware named as mirai took over the concept of the DVRs and webcam which resulted in the disruption of the internet all over the united Stated who was responsible for the event was not known properly or who eventually unlashed the malware in the concept of the infrastructure relating to the internet was not known. In recent times, the invasion of the connected devices there is no directly answer to the question (Mukhopadhyay Suryadevara, 2014). The answer to the question is not found due to the factor that there is no legal infrastructure in the concept that would be directly making the manufacturers responsible if any event occur which would be harming other people. The concept of the internet of things does not just lack in the concept of the legal infrastructure but also lacks in the concept of the critical infrastructure (Whitmore, Agarwal Da Xu, 2015). There is a basic demand of the code of ethics, which should be prevailing in the concept of the internet and how it should be used and took advantage. The main concept, which should be taken into consideration, is that how to build and design the system and directly think about the overall working of the system. The main question, which should be taken into consideration in this aspect, is that who is accountable and who is responsible if any unethical event takes place and how to promote the good of public in the infrastructure of the internet of things. In some sense it can be stated that the age of information has made some kind of impact on the life of the people. The concept of the internet of things exacerbates it. The boundary, which prevailed in the concept of the social world and the and the physical world, are very much blendi ng which is making technology more people oriented. The internet of things in the near future would be affecting the life of the people in a tremendous manner, which should be governed by some sort of ethical aspect so that it would not be hampering the life of the common people. there are lot of things that can be put focus into that few days back could not have been though about even. One of the best example in this case is the self-driving car: what it would be if the self-driving would have to make a bad decision? How would the decision be made and what who would be responsible for the decision being made. The internet of thing is playing a vital role in the life of the people in recent times and it can be stated that in the near future it would be playing more dominating role and involving more prospective of the life of the common people. It is one of the most emerging sectors were the ethical issues are faced and should be taken care of in the near future so that it would not hamper the life of the common people. The Australian computer society code of professional conduct states the nice and the general things that should be followed by the people in their professional live. One of the example in this case is that the people place the interest of the public above those of personal business or sectional interest. It can be stated here that the IT professionals are not paid by the interest of the people. The work of the IT Professional are mainly included in the sector of the business and the sectional interest. While these type of interest are towards the business should serve is a big subject of lively debate to a first management of approximation related to the business, which are expected to act in the direct interest of their stakeholders and within the framework of the law. Taking into consideration the senior management even though they are technologists in practice it is very much legal and cultural obligation of the role of the management that are taken into consideration in a more se rious manner than any professional obligation that can be applied to any type of IT professional. In a general view many of the business bodies work and act in a way that are very much harmful to the broader society in the direct interest of the stakeholders (Whitmore, Agarwal Da Xu, 2015). Some of the companies who in the order to stay ethical in their business orientation want to skip some sort of activities, which according to them may be termed as unethical activity. Sometimes business bodies in order to gain profit move towards the concept of being involved into unethical processes by which they gain lot of profit as well as business. The body of the ACS might be looking for a seek a de facto gatekeeper role by which its credentials attaining employment can be developed in the concept. The ACS Code of ethics cannot be considered any anything, which is related to the real obligation, which should be compiled with. In a way, it can be stated that the code of ethics, which was formed in the year 2010 it, was the first time when the actual implementation of the code of ethics w as actually implemented into the system. In general, laws are applicable to different field, which can be used in order to make the service, which is related to the IT professional more concentrate. The code of ethics can be considered to be an explicit document which lays down the experience of the professional working in the different field not only in the field of technology. The Australian code of ethics sets the tenor, which is reflected to the exemplary community and its work practice, which is related to the benchmark of the human service practitioners. The founder of the association frost created the code of ethics taking into consideration different aspects, which can be involved in the working in a professional field that can be applied for a proper working in the field. The code of ethics was before known as the practitioners code of ethics. Few of the example of the code are that which can be related to the indicators, which would be stating the overall working in the peripheral of the code. The eight guideline which can be used for setting a example are stated below: Provision of support and services Practice which are ethical Diversity The framework which is regulatory Professional standing The workplace Professional development The Australian community code of practice and workers guide can be very much helping in knowing the overall segmentation of the work which can be conducted over the concept of the infrastructure. The code of ethics are displayed in the work place, which can be displayed at the workplace which can be used for increasing the concern in the good practice related to the work in the work place (Whitmore, Agarwal Da Xu, 2015). The concept of the utilitarianism can be considered as one of the main thought of school in the ethics in modern times. Utilitarianism holds that what is ethical is whatever while minimize the concept of the total happiness while concept of the pain is reduced. The work total over here can be stated as one of the most important word and can be related to the total happiness of the human race. Few of the example of utilitarianism are the trolley system. In the aspect it can be seen that a trolley is heading towards a group of 5 people on a track and the control of the trolley is set few kilometer away from the action. Any the control of the trolley is such that the trolley can be set into another track where there is only one worker. If the flip were done than, only one worker would be dying and if the switch is not done than five worker would be, dying so what should be done in such a situation. In a recent survey, it was stated that the flip should be implemented, which would be res ulting in the loss of only one person and save the other three persons. The loss of life should be minimized in this way and should be taken care of that apart from five person one would be losing his life. This can be one of the biggest example of the utilitarianism reasoning where the importance is given to the life of the people than merely thinking about the problem difficulty. There are two types of utilitarianism. Both the types of the utilitarianism aim at the goal of the ethics and always focus on the concept of ethics. However, one of the important factors, which play a role in this concept, is that where should the decision be applied. The two types of utilitarianism are the act utilitarianism and the rule utilitarianism (Barrow, 2015). The act utilitarianism directly states that we should be always choose the action, which is based on what will cause the greatest loss to the concept of happiness. On the other hand the concept of rule utilitarianism states that it should figure out what sort of behavior usually cause the factor of happiness in the life of the common people and how do they play a role in their life. The factors should be considered as the rules. For example, a judge can send a man to prison taking into consideration that the person would not be involved in any types of illegal activity in the near future and wants to be lenient based on the concept like may be very old or has some sort of physical illness attached to them. The judge knows if the victim were not send to the jail, he or she would be very much happy with the decision and would be living a pure life without any problem and not to mention their family and friends name. On the other hand, think of the family has forgiven the crime, which is committed by the person, and his family member has forgiven him. Should the judge let the person go away with the crime that he or she has performed? The act of utilitarianism states that the victim must be left alone without any form of penalty (de Lazari-Radek Singer, 2017). Other hand the rule of utilitarianism states that the person should not be left due to the factor that taking into consideration that in the future no more crimes would be performed but the judge should stay with the law and give the punishment, which is stated in the law books. The utilitarianism can be considered as one of the most common forms of consequentialism, which is one of the three major branches, which can be related to the concept of ethics. There are different school of thought which play in the mind of the people and there are no particular reason, which can be stated here in this context, but the decision, which should be made in each of the cases, would be beneficial for some one or the other and the decision sometimes can be someone not happy. There are no law by which every one would be happy and would be leading a better life. In most of the cases people think in a positive manner in order to get what they exactly want in this concept the word utilitarianism play a vital role so that a bad decision can sometimes bring something good to the society which would be making the life of the people more simpler (Mill, 2016). Jasper Jones as a Bildungsroman Essay Example

Jasper Jones as a Bildungsroman Paper Jasper Jones, a novel set in the mid-1960’s, is the story of an adolescent boy, Charlie Bucktin. It illustrates that making choices is a significant part of human behaviour. Individuals have to live with the consequences of their decisions. Studying this novel written by Craig Silvery in 2009, broadens an understanding of the process of choices and draws conclusions about the factors involved in coming of age. In other words, Jasper Jones is a bildungsroman. The main protagonist Charlie is best described as a wallflower, the improbable hero who seems to shy away from conflict and perceives the world on the basis of words written by the likes of Harper Lee and Mark Twain. Silvey’s extremely careful composition of Charlie aids and enables us to perceive the story on a highly un-biased, open-minded and impartial basis. Within the first chapter, Charlie is placed in an unfamiliar situation, challenging and awakening his initial thoughts on what is right and wrong, thoughts like â€Å"We have drowned her.† â€Å"We are monsters†. The youthful, sheltered boy who commits this act alongside the infamous Jasper Jones and begins his journey with an undying sense of doubt, but we soon see how Charlie perceives Jasper, his fellow accomplice; â€Å"I think he’s the most honest person in this town†. This bold bond, formed in secrecy, exposes young Charlie to ever-looming maturity, a window into a world that leaves the truth bare and reveals the faults that lie within the streets of Corrigan. Charlie has yet to experience this in its full force but Jasper’s presence prompts the rise of inquisitive questions in his mind. Do SAT Scores Predict Success

Do SAT Scores Predict Success SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips There’s no doubt that a good SAT score will give you a leg up in college admissions, but is this advantage justified? It’s been argued, especially in recent years, that SAT scores are not reliable predictors of success in college academics, the job world, and beyond. In this article, I’ll explore these claims and see just how relevant your scores are to your future. Do High SAT Scores Predict Future Academic Success? The short answer is â€Å"not always.†SAT scores only account for 10 to 20 percent of the variation in first-year college GPAs, but this statistic is slightly misleading. Since most schools admit students who fall within a relatively small range of SAT scores, a student's performance on the SAT is less likely to predict large variations in GPA. If one college admitted students with SAT scores that were all over the map, the predictive value of the scores would likely be stronger. Still, according to this study, high school GPA is a more accurate predictor of a student’s ultimate success in college than SAT scores.A student with average SAT scores and a high GPA is overall more likely to be successful in college than a student with high SAT scores and a GPA that’s on the lower side. Many students put a lot of effort into SAT prep, so scores can still be a strong indication of a student’s academic dedication. However, SAT scores represent the results of one test, whereas GPA represents the result of hundreds of tests. GPA usually provides a morecomplete and accurate picture of how students meet academic challenges. Students with high SAT scores may have earned their scores through natural ability and a solid education, or they may have devoted a lot of time and effort to test preparation. If a high score is due to natural ability, it won’t necessarily mean that the student has the wherewithal to complete long-term assignments and think deeply and critically in the ways that college classes require. However, if the student did put a lot of time and effort into SAT prep, a high score may very well be indicative of serious dedication even if he or she has a low GPA. The SAT can’t definitively predict the effort that a student is willing to put into academics or how he or she will respond to assignments that require extended effort and concentration. Many people with high SAT scores do go on to become academically successful, but this is usually because they also have the drive to succeed in school. They most likely earned their scores through hard work and maintained a high GPA in high school as well.Students with high GPAs and high SAT scores remain the most likely to end up successful in college. If you have a low high school GPA but high SAT scores that you worked hard to earn, don’t let the overall trends affect your self-perception too much.High SAT scores may indicate that you have a lot of raw intelligence, you went to a great high school, you worked hard and studied a lot for the test, or some random combination of those factors.Scores can have very different origins, which means that they don’t automatically spell future academic success. They just make it a bit more likely! A+ grades don't exist at most colleges. But you'll probably get at least a few As because grade inflation is so bad. Do High SAT Scores Predict Future Career Success? The SAT can’t reliably measure perseverance, conscientiousness, or interpersonal skills. These are the traits that result in long-term success in virtually any career field. A high score may indicate that a student possesses some of these qualities (especially if they studied hard for it), but it's not a guarantee. Your scorealso can't always predict your ultimate level of education, which is a much better indicator of future career success and earning potential. People with associate’s degrees earn less on average than people with bachelor’s degrees, and people with bachelor’s degrees earn less on average than people with master’s degrees.Your major also makes a big difference in your ultimate earnings. People who major in engineering or IT earn more on average than people who major in the humanities. There is a correlation between people who earn high SAT scores and people who strive to work in more competitive fields or earn more advanced degrees, but the SAT score alone doesn’t always predict success. There are a few job fields with strict recruiting processes thatrequire candidates to report their SAT scores. These include consulting, software engineering, and investment banking.Since these jobs are very competitive, employers use SAT scores as another way to weed out â€Å"less qualified† applicants. So yes, having a high SAT score can help you if you are planning on going through recruiting processes for these types of jobs, but if you don’t have other qualifications going for you, SAT scores can only get your so far. The bottom line is that high SAT scores can start you on the path to a strong career, but to succeed long-term you'll have to possess other qualities that are valuable in the job world outside of the narrow set of skills that are tested. If, for example, you want to have a career in hanging signs that say "career" from invisible rafters in a white room, your SAT scores won't matter because you've completely lost touch with reality. Are People With High SAT Scores Ultimately Happier? This is a tough one because it depends on how you define â€Å"happier†.Within the higher education system that’s currently in place, it’s a fact that high SAT scores will get you into more prestigious colleges, leading to more potential job prospects, and, depending on your major and how much education you get, a fulfilling career. Since happiness is such a subjective measure, it’s difficult to say whether high SAT scores will lead to greater happiness in your life.If your happiness is tied up in academic achievement and attaining high levels of education, high SAT scores may propel you down a path to greater happiness. If these things aren’t as important to you, and you have other priorities like creating great art, having a family, or pursuing a career where academic achievement is less relevant, SAT scores won’t necessarily impact how happy you are. Some people with high SAT scores might be lesshappy because they’re never satisfied with what they do, no matter how outwardly successful they might look. Getting a college education is a good start to a fulfilling life for most people, but if you have a 1500 SAT score and someone else has a 2000, you’ll both be able to get into college. After that point, it’s hard to tell which one of you will be happier in the long run.Your SAT score on its own can’t determine your destiny! According to Google images, all you have to do to find true happiness is to jump in the air with a cool-looking sky behind you. Conclusion All in all, it would be inaccurate to say that SAT scores can directly predict success.High SAT scores will enable you to get into a selective school and can predict your GPA for the first year of college relatively well, but from then on your success may vary a lot depending on how driven you are. Overall, people with high SAT scores and low high school GPAs are likely to end up with low GPAs in college as well, and people with average SAT scores and impressive high school GPAs are likely to continue to get good grades in college.High SAT scores will give you a leg up in some competitive job markets, but they can’t necessarily predict how well you'll do long-term in your career. The main thing to take away from this information is that high SAT scores help you get into college, but they don’t mean that you’re set for life.As I’ve said, a high score can mean different things depending on how you earned it.For some students, it’s indicative of hard work and prep over a long period of time, and for others it’s indicative of a natural aptitude for test taking and a strong high school education. If you pulled your high SAT score out of thin air, it might be less of a solid predictor of your ability to face academic struggles and work hard later in life.If you put in a lot of effort to earn a high score, it’s more likely that you’ll end up doing well in college and beyond because you have the discipline to overcome intellectual challenges. Forensics project Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Forensics project - Essay Example Other applications entail investigating whether there was a breach of network within an organization. In the technical aspects of the investigation, digital forensics has several sub-branches that relate to the digital devices that have been in use. They include the network forensics, mobile data computer, and forensics data analysis (Oriyano & Gregg, 2011). Apart from the provision of direct evidence relating to digital crimes, digital forensics has vast applications in authenticating documents, confirmation of alibis, identification, and determining the intent of the breach in the information. To sum it, all digital forensics entails the preservation, extraction, and analysis of the evidence relating to digital content for appropriate legal actions. The field concerns with apprehending criminals who use digital technology in committing crimes. Some of the crimes committed through digital technology include hacking of emails to retrieve important information, retrieving information from the government agencies and institutions in an illegal manner for personalized use or terrorism (Oriyano & Gregg, 2011). Gone are the days when criminals used excessive force to get what they want. They have shifted to the use of technology in wiring money to their accounts especially from banking institutions without the use of force. Digital forensics is of relevance to these cases and helps in averting such crimes (Marcella & Guillossou, 2012). In this project, Digital Forensic Evidence Files will be investigated using the Forensic Toolkit that is available within the Lab. The evidence files have been collected from the suspect’s computer. The files for investigation are true images retrieved from the hard drive of the computer (Marcella & Guillossou, 2012). Three files are available for investigation namely, Thumb drive. E01, Mantooth.E0, and Washer.E01. The files under

Explore how a particular type of deviance is defined, conceptualised, Essay

Explore how a particular type of deviance is defined, conceptualised, interpreted, apprehended and evaluated in 1 or 2 different sports - Essay Example This implies certain transformations on the notions of pain and injury, and ultimately on the notion of deviance. This paper is an exploration on the said transformations as effected by factors such as the agonistic nature of society and the subjection of mixed martial arts to the disciplinary mechanisms of society. Pain and injury stemming from violent behavior in sport is often seen from a negative perspective, that is, physical violence and sport are often seen as exclusive from one another. Boxing is one such sport that has received criticisms for supposedly being unnecessarily violent (Poliakoff, 1987, pp 89-90). It might be argued of course that a degree of violence will always be present in sport because of its competitive nature. However, it can be argued still that the infliction of pain and injury to the opponent is behavior that borders on deviance, in the sense that society in general does not approve of harming one’s competitor, whether it be in business or other, just to promote oneself to a more advantageous position. An excessively violent or aggressive response to conflict is generally disapproved, and hence seen as somewhat deviant. More so in the sporting arena is aggression that inflicts physical and perhaps even mental pain or injury, perceived as disagreeable behavi or. Sport, as conceived in relation to the concepts of play and games, is a social activity that presumably promotes certain ideals. When the Olympic Games were revived in 1896 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, it was with the vision of instilling positive virtues in young men, such as camaraderie, sportsmanship, and excellence. To this day, the idea of Olympism, the view that sports is used to promote values that are held in high regard by society, appears to be dominant, albeit with evident difficulties itself. This is perhaps one of the reasons as well, why violent behavior in sport is often understood as

An Empirical Study on Why Sociological Research and Theory Focus on Essay

An Empirical Study on Why Sociological Research and Theory Focus on Issues of Identity - Essay Example Vander Zanden (1990a) presented this as both tackling a problem, is faced with initial perplexity and assumptions, then comes the search for evidence, perceptive reasoning, false leads and eventually, or ideally really, the final sense of victory. In contrast yet the justification as well, Zanden continued, (1990b), "detectives undertake to identify and locate criminals and collect evidence to convict them in a court of law. Sociologists develop concepts and theories to explain people's behavior. Even though their goals may differ, detectives and sociologists attempt to answer two types of question: "Why did something happen" and "Under what circumstances is it likely to happen again" In brief, both attempt to explain and predict." In grasping both comes thereafter the issue of identity issues. Simply put, one needs to know the proper approach and yet even before that, how to do it, when to do it right and why it is best to do it right. The late Professor C. Wright Mills (1959a) aptly addressed this when he said, "Neither the life of an individual nor the history of a society can be understood without understanding both. The history that now affects every man is world history." Very true. Identity issues do confront every single citizen of this world no matter the creed, race or religion. From social identity issues, to political and gender issues, all these help shape and unshape a nation and the many communities, societies in it. For anybody and everybody to achieve triumph or come close to overcoming these issues hounding the world and its populace, imperative then to understand how these personal battles have become public issues. Sociological imagination as Mills labeled it (Mills 1959b) and explained as the ability to see our lives, concerns, problems and hopes entwined within the largest social and historical context in which we live. (Zanden 1990c, p.7) And from thereon comes government policies, formulated and designed to address the specific public issues that have become more than social issues. Ours is a "human-made world," as yet another renowned sociologists Zygmunt Bauman and Tim May pointed out in their joint

Citizen Journalism in Malaysia

Citizen Journalism in Malaysia INTRODUCTION Online citizen journalism is a hot topic that has been happened around us but there have numerous perceptive or opinion regarding the definition and meaning derived from a various sources. The existence of different information offers citizens access to a variety of topics, ideas, stories and capability in their writing. In this research will measure a credibility Metro Online Broadcast (MBO) and Citizen Journalist Malaysia (CJMY) that includes variety of content and topics that most serve this function in the Malaysia. Based on observation of the site, Metro Online Broadcast (MBO) and Citizen Journalist Malaysia (CJMY) is obviously to feature a greater diversity of content, topics, general information, lifestyle and interactive. The role of journalism According to (Goh, 2007) the press or journalism is known the compulsory component that played a role as the watchdog for a healthy democracy. Journalists are played an important responsibility as a journalist in our society. However, Goh also found that Michael Schudson gives a similar definition which means journalism is the business of a set of institutions that promotes periodically information and on contemporary affairs. Basically, journalist are presented their story as true and sincere especially to an anonymous and spread it to spectators openly including within discussion space which considered very important. However, (Deuze,2006) stated that basically journalism is undergoing a transformation. (Witt,2004) found that because of the power of technological advancements have reduced the costs of publishing and with a computer now equating to a printing press individuals have immediate access to publishing suites. Bases on the observation, transformation has emerged the increasing audience expectation that a certain level of audience participation be permitted and indeed facilitated by the media. Online citizen journalism According to (Bowman Willis, 2003), citizen journalism is defined a people who have a responsibility in the process of collecting, analyzing, reporting and delivering news or information to the readers. They also stated that citizen who becomes a journalist are be given the opportunity to become a writers either in online and offline with a variety of forms and formats, working under a variety of editorial schemes that focuses on a differences range of topics. The range whether from the expert to the generic and the micro-local to the global. According to the information at the website (Educause, 2007) citizen journalism is defined to citizen have an opportunity in which they can contribute information or comment about news events at the website. Furthermore, people could be denied that over the year’s citizen journalism has advantage from the development of various technologies which includes the printing press that provided a different tools for the pamphleteers within 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, at that century was using a television, telegraph, and tape recorders which offered opportunities for people to participate in sharing news events and commentary. By the growth of digital technologies, society have unprecedented access to the tools of dissemination and production. The information were include citizen journalist of submitted reviews or opinion such as on a web site about movies to Wikipedia based news. According to (Educause, 2007) has stated that some sites only run stories written by citizen. However traditional news normally accept comments and news stories from readers. Citizen journalism indicate a difference but between simply offering opinion on a topic and developing a balanced story that will be originally useful to readers. Online citizen journalism do their work The issues surrounding how citizen journalism works involve policy more than technology which make a blog as main tools to convey their mission. A website or blog that only includes stories from nonprofessional journalists or citizen who willing to share their stories have responsibility for the content resting with the contributors, or as usual it can have some level of editorial error make a decisions about such as checking facts or editing grammar. However, for a mainstream primary flow that allows citizen to comments or submit the story. To avoid any effect on organization’s credibility the policies must be established about these issues (Educause, 2007). Normally, citizen journalism projects would use a range of technologies which include digital video and audio online tools for posting or accessing stories, have a rules to block who can submit or edit content, and RSS tools to simplify accurate dissemination of content. Some citizen journalism were prefer using wikis and collaborate writing and editing. Flickr photos and YouTube videos as an example of applications encourage users to link to online resources (Educause, 2007). People who involved in online citizen journalism Online citizen journalism were consisted a people who making a sites limited to nonprofessional reporting, such as in Malaysia there have Metro Online Broadcast and Citizen Journalist Malaysia but in overseas a divisions of traditional media companies that feature citizen journalism, such as CNN’s I-Reporter. Basically, citizen use blogs, wikis, photo, video sharing sites, digital storytelling applications and other online media as tools for citizen journalism to deliver their stories. Most of them were taking a projects that relates to local approach, convey the news about citizen issues especially interest topics, such as financial matters, gender issues, political issue and economics issue. Types of online citizen journalism website working in Malaysia Metro Online Broadcast Metro Online Broadcast or MOB which acts as a citizen journalism site, gives an opportunity to the public to share news from their communities that may often go unreported or published. It is similar with newspaper which reports news and happening from around our community. MOB apart are the people known as citizen journalists who produce and determine the suitable news content should be publish. The hidden vital stories among community also are reported and covered in the MOB website. The process of news gathering and information had received from the journalists or known as MOBbers are confirmed and legalize with the help of a core team of journalists or MOB advisors who manage the site. In addition, readers can share their feedback, views and comments on stories that have been published. Citizen Journalists Malaysia Citizen Journalism Malaysia or CJMY was introduced by Malaysia Kini’s CEO, Premesh Chandran. He has started the citizen journalism training course with funding from International Center for Journalists in the United States in 2008. The first training conducted in November at the same year. The aim of this website to existence of participants, without knowing a background with journalistic skills in order to improve their writing and develop new skills such as video story telling. CJMY has spawned 400 citizen journalists and 150 are an active reporters. Some of them have made their own name. There are over 80 training workshops have been conducted throughout Malaysia including in Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Kelantan, Penang, Sarawak and Sabah. The training and workshops was successful therefore CJMY become a platform for citizen journalists to host their work. Amateur journalists have an opportunity to make a right news is being reported and challenge them to feel a surrounding with sensitive issues. Development of citizen journalism Phenomena of citizen journalism was include veteran sites such as Slashdot and Indymedia. OhmyNews one of the famous and the most influential news related weblogs in South Korean which in 2003 was attracting an estimated two million readers a day and online news site in that country (Gillmor, 2003). Other than that, Wikipedia also one of the source with recognize as up to date news and currents events section. Currently, it was introduced as Wikinews and even citizen journalists have huge opportunity to produced video news through in sites such as YouTube and DailyMotion. According to (Flew, 2007) news media organizations are adopting citizen journalism practices and are encouraging citizens to contribute to their news sites while professional journalists are also cooperating with citizen journalists in their news presentation and dissemination processes. However (Jenkins, 2008) found that major daily newspapers are rapidly inviting and subsequently sharing user generated content. For example comments, photos, videos and articles on their news sites. Based on the (Amanda, 2006) more than 1000 citizen news media organizations are sustained through blogs and websites in local communities. Therefore, ordinary citizens enable to contribute news and information. However, the information that were provided by citizen journalist could influences community thoughts either in negative or positive ways. (Ashely, 2006) found that blog users were highly have a credibility to attribute in blogs rather than traditional media sources while also rating traditional sources as moderately credible. Nowadays, community much prefer choose a source of information through online. Content diversity on online citizen journalism The existence of online citizen journalism content in the marketplace may include diversity of information that citizens have contribute while making decisions related to the community environment. According to (Kim Ball-Rokeach, 2006) the utilisation of a diversity of content can encourage individual to give awareness of self because it exposes people to various ideas. According to (Blanchard, 1977) diversity is also a matter of accuracy. According to (Pease, 1990) must have diversity of content and coverage should give a serious attention. The variety of content at the organization level would decrease because of the rising online competitors and declining profits. According to Pease newspapers normally limit their coverage to maintain their readers when faced a lot threat of competition. However, specific coverage may not fully meet the specific of accuracy because demographically tailored coverage can lack representativeness. According to (Carpenter, 2008) there are few studies conducted on online citizen journalism publications but there have a differences in content probably attributed to the perceived changes in their readers. However, according to (Johnstone , 1976) citizen were prefer to generated content by published for smaller and more integrated audiences on a less permanent basis in order to encourage citizen journalists to produce content dissimilar from that daily newspaper journalists. By their observations, blogs are usually used by online citizen journalism and newspaper journalists to disseminate their content. Smaller publications whether urban or rural are focus on community especially about conflict, advocacy over objectivity and evaluation over straight reporting. According to (Donahue, 1972) smaller publications distribute a stories community’s needs with their desire to make professional journalistic content. However, they are not recognize as online newspapers. Their normally loyalty not steadily toward their community. This is because according to recent survey by (Schaffer, 2007) most of the online citizen journalists perceive they are be able to solve community problems and encourage a high local voter turnout. But the value of content it was failed to known widely by online citizen journalists in the marketplace. The situation would be seen through (Carpenter, 2008) online citizen journalists were rarely to rely the opinion by media routines and prefer producing stories that use more unofficial sources. According to (Pease, 1990) previously newsroom leadership have failed morally and economically to diversity the content because they only focused on hiring minorities in the newsroom. Negative actions in socializes among journalists would affects the presence of content diversity. However (Shoemaker Reese, 1996) were argued compliance to routines and the implementation of similar news values to stories will causing the content become variety to the public. Then the researcher would analysed the selected online citizen journalism website by using quantitative content analysis. This is because it is suitable for measuring large quantities of data. According to (American Society of Newspaper Editors, 2002:) the responsibility and roles of a journalist is very important because readers really care about have been show but not how the stories will be published. They are also be able to judge based on the content rather than the process. For this research, the researcher are focus on a diversity content in online citizen journalism website which is Metro Online Broadcast (MOB) and Citizen Journalist Malaysia (CJMY). This research also are created to measure of content diversity to make the comparisons for each topics. The content was measured the general information that provide diversity of content on both website, news source, and topics selection. Primary topic in online citizen journalism website One of the author in the (Project for Excellence in Journalism, 1999) stated that the increasingly of topics that covered by the news organization will showing an excellent of the organization. They stated that a diversity of topics would describes entirely about community issue. This study will evaluate the diversity level of articles by utilizing Simpson’s D. According to (McDonald Dimmick, 2003) Simpson’s D was measures the proportions across categories and the diversity will considered an optimal measure to improve of its interpretative capability. The content that found at the online citizen journalism is probably similar with smaller publications. According to (Janowitz, 1952) smaller publications are most focus on the coverage on human interest, social events and athletics. Whereas, larger publications are more to concentrate on government and crime topics. Based on research of (Project for Excellence in Journalism, 1999) found that the topics such as business, government, crime and foreign relation stories were has greater reported proportion than other stories such as accident, entertainment, science reporting and elections that includes in newspaper.

Childhood Obesity in The United States Essay examples -- overweight, c

Over a half-century ago obesity, and overweight has become a silent monster that creeps from within. Americans have been preoccupied in the last fifty years with countless numbers of problems that it seems that we have forgotten about our very own waistline. But, what is the difference between overweight and obesity? According to the Center for Disease for Control and Prevention overweight means that a person has a body mass index or BMI between 25 through 29 and anything higher than a 30 is consider obese. In 2009 and 2010 the CDC stated that, â€Å"more than 35% of U.S. men and women were obese†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Carroll, Flegal, Kit, Ogden p.2). The obesity epidemic has reached 1/3 of the United States adult population; as a result many have considered that the only way to manage this epidemic is by implying a fat tax. This tax will target people who fit a specific profile, if they tip the scale they must pay. But the weight is not only targeted at adults, obesity has targeted the mos t vulnerable people of our society, our children. According to the CDC obesity and overweight affects â€Å"17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (p.1.) One day this generation of children will be adults and they should not be paying a tax because of their weight. Drastic measures need to be taken to treat childhood obesity and avoid a fat tax. Food consumption is a common body function that everybody must fulfill. But why do we eat? According to Levine and Billington, the authors of â€Å"Why do we eat? A Neural Systems Approach,† we â€Å"eat for a variety of reasons, including energy needs, time of day, social setting, stress, boredom, palatability/reward, and food availability at little or no cost. Historically, studies of energy metabolism have focused ... ...Sabrina Morrison a RN points out that, â€Å"teasing or negative verbal feedback is a risk factor for the development of body dissatisfaction and eating disturbances such as bulimia, anorexia, and binge eating disorders (Lunner et al., 2000)† (p. 203.) According to Morrison being bullied and teased will cause a child to develop bulimia, or anorexia. It is not a unknown fact that in severe cases where the persecution comes to such a cases that many children think of â€Å"†¦suicidal ideation and attempts associated with weight-biased teasing were two to three times higher among those teased then their nonteased peers. (Eisenberg et al., 2003)† (p. 203.) Sadly children are having suicidal thoughts because of their weight and how much they are bullied at school. However, many think that the obesity and overweight epidemic is a â€Å"problem† that has been overrated and exaggerated.
